In the web of violence
Every third day in Italy, a woman dies at the hands of a man. So we can no longer speak of isolated cases. The murderer is usually the partner, ex-partner, a stalker or a rejected suitor. In her play, Barbara Plagg examines the social and structural reasons that favour the murder of women.
Starting with the murder victim Eva, a web of questions, consternation, evasions, habits, ignorance and a lack of civil courage weaves its way through a small-town cast of characters: Could this femicide, which was a long time coming, have been prevented? Even if the individual institutions and people cannot be directly blamed, the sum of daily decisions and pressures paved the way for Eva's tormentors to take the knife. The attempt to understand the course of a tragedy culminates in the hopeless tangle of social failure. And yet: isn't looking at the researched prevention chaos a wake-up call for us? The countdown is running relentlessly!
