Life in the health dictatorship
Sometime in the middle of the 21st century. People are freed from disease. The highest state goal is health. The METHOD, a health dictatorship, controls every person by means of an implanted chip and dictates their lifestyle. Anything that harms health is forbidden. Even negative feelings such as sadness should be overcome as quickly as possible. Mia Holl, a young biologist, neglects the health rules out of grief for her brother and has to answer for it in court. Her brother Moritz was imprisoned for the murder of a woman and took his own life. Mia begins to doubt the infallibility of the METHOD because she believes in her brother's innocence. Because of her questions and her deviation from the healthy way of life, she is eventually declared a terrorist.
Juli Zeh weaves themes such as health mania, body optimisation and a decline in values into a gripping courtroom drama and shows how a totalitarian system can develop under the guise of state care.
