An island between magic and reality, where exile becomes salvation

A theatre company has very little time to stage William Shakespeare’s *The Tempest*. The actors have already immersed themselves in their roles, whilst the island takes shape on stage: a place of exile, power and enchantment. Prospero, a deposed duke and magician, lives here with his daughter Miranda and commands spirits such as Ariel, whilst keeping Caliban in chains. After a storm he has conjured up, his enemies are shipwrecked on the island, and a plan for revenge begins to take shape. Amidst love, conflict and the yearning for freedom, each character seeks a way out of their captivity. The dynamics of the story are reflected within the theatre company: reality and fiction become blurred. Along the way, the possibility of forgiveness emerges, and the island becomes a place of transformation and new beginnings.
